The opening reception for the 12th annual Aurora Public Art Commission Winter Garden of Youth Art will be held on Friday, December 11th, 2009 from 5-7pm. This exhibit features art by students currently enrolled in Aurora schools, grades K-12.

The November 2009 Featured Artists are students from Beveridge Magnet School in Omaha, NE. On display are 60 pieces of artwork, most created using oil pastels. Thank you to Karen Bertelsen, an art teacher at Beveridge, for sharing these wonderful pieces of student work! All artwork is on exhibit in the Omaha Blick store throughout the month of November.

The Blick store in Wheaton, IL has been collecting Artist Trading Cards throughout October to send to U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Walter Reed Hospital. Cards will be sent out in November by The Thank You Foundation (www.thethankyoufoundation.org), an organization that provides assistance for current U.S. troops and veterans.
Before they are sent, the Wheaton store will have the over 3,000 cards created by students, artists, and community members on display during regular business hours on October 28th and October 29th, 2009. Stop by and view these special works of art.

Blick’s Wheaton, IL store will be collecting Artist Trading Cards throughout the month of October to send to U.S. troops. The cards will feature messages of support or holiday greetings. Cards will be sent out to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Walter Reed Hospital in November by The Thank You Foundation (www.thethankyoufoundation.org), an organization established for the purpose of providing appreciation and assistance for current U.S. troops as well as veterans.
Local schools have joined the project, and students will design their contributions on Artist Trading Cards generously provided by Strathmore Artist Papers. Several nationally known artists will also lend their talent and creativity to this cause by creating messages for the troops.
For those not familiar with the Artist Trading Card movement, it started as a way to create small works of art to be easily shared with other artists. The cards help build connections and community, which is why they are so perfectly suited to this project. The only official rule is that all cards must be a standard size, 2.5″ x 3.5″(64 mm x 89 mm).
The Wheaton Blick store will accept cards through October 25, 2009 from anyone who wishes to participate in this project. If you choose to join, please only submit cards with non-political, positive messages. In addition, cards must be free of any metal or glitter.

Join us as we sponsor the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (SAIC) BareWalls 2009 program. The 15th Annual BareWalls benefit will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at The Sullivan Galleries (33 S. State Street, 7th Floor, Chicago, IL). Doors open at 6pm.
The benefit supports the BareWalls Scholarship Fund. SAIC alumni and faculty will create artwork live during the evening, and a silent auction provides an exciting opportunity for those in attendance to bid on the works while they are in progress. Refreshments and live music will also be available for guests to enjoy.
